Mikołaj Sobociński

I graduated from the English Department at Nicolaus Copernicus University, Torun, in 2001 writing an MA on War & Film Posters, and Press Photography tracing propaganda and manipulation mechanisms. Since then I worked as a teacher of English and tutor in a few language schools and at two universities. For the last five years I have worked at Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz. I am trying to finish my PhD on Verbal Proxemics in Metropolitan Discourse while teaching, raising my two children, Max and Mati, and staying sane. Every two years I take part in a number of conferences and organise some as well. Last year I organised a panel at the IPrA (International Pragmatics Association) Conference, in Manchester, devoted to Prof. Ron Scollon. This year, as you already know, I am preparing a study visit on some problematic issues within the education system in Poland and more generally in Europe, namely, problems with reading comprehension and writing skills we have noticed to become more and more serious among some students. For the last two years with Michal Mochocki and a few other friends at the English Department, we have prepared a number of lectures for children and teens in cooperation with Polska Akademia Dzieci, Bydgoszcz division on Facebook. From time to time I take part in conferences devoted to methodology of teaching or teacher training, as I do teach future teachers and believe that if I want my students to become successful professionals I also must have some knowledge and views on what the education system is all about.

You can find more about my conferences and publications if you visit my academia.edu profile or you can simply find me on Facebook.
